Majnoon Qahwa

21 November 2015

This has got to be one of the coolest most interesting new spots in Amman.

I walked into Majnoon Qahwa, Amman’s newest coffee place and was welcomed by the friendly host. Intrigued by the coffee machines, roaster and coffee bean display, I asked a billion questions. To my surprise, the staff knew the answer to every one, they are well trained and know a lot about coffee.

They roast their own coffee, which comes from 4 different countries, El Salvador, Guatemala, Brazil and Yemen. They sell their own coffee for home brewing too.

One of the devices that got me curious was the Cold Drip Brewer, where ice water drips into the grinded coffee for over 12 hours to give a concentrated cold coffee, when mixed with a bit of water, the result is a brilliant coffee with strong taste.

They also serve a Yemeni ‘Qishr’ drink, which is made from the coating of coffee beans, and soaked in hot water for 8 hours. It is sort of like tea, but has a distinct taste. This is not a caffeine based drink and is served either cold or hot.

The 2 floor location has a huge outdoor terrace which overlooks East Amman.

Most importantly they serve food! Their menu includes a breakfast menu with eggs benedict, omelets and fried eggs as well as pancakes and waffles. As for their lunch & dinner menu, they serve a variety of soups, salads, sandwiches, paninis and of course desserts.

Their blackboard displays today’s specials, a mix of different sandwiches, soups and salads.

They serve argeeleh outdoors on their terrace or balcony.

This is the creativity that is needed in Jordan, this is the type of business that is crucial for restaurants and cafes to be able to survive in Jordan. Enough replication, step out of the box and innovate.
